‘Build From Home’- Expand your Horizon
When life throws challenges at you, it’s easy to give up, sit back and mourn. But it takes some real courage and determination to fight back and win against all odds. Do you know what’s more difficult? To keep taking on new challenges and continuously working on making them better.
The world around is in a rush. It is important to access knowledge to set the course for a better future. Tinkerhub presented an opportunity ‘Build from home’ to think, learn, and grow more.
Foreword…
Build from home was an initiative by Tinkerhub to code, learn, and grow together. From the four stacks –Python, NodeJs, Machine Learning and Flutter — a team can opt any one as per their wish. The ultimate aim of BFH was to help the team to plan, build and host a project. The experience shared by each team is an inspiration to all.
Tour de force.…
‘Build from home’ was a wonderful opportunity from our ‘Tinkerhub’ foundation to develop a project with a team and experience the joy of self-exploration through our own area of interest. Gayathri Sivakumar Menon, Poornima J, and Alphi Kurian Shajan made up one of the teams from the Tinkerhub community of NSS College of Engineering whose project got accepted by Tinkerhub Foundation.
They created ‘Acoustics’, a lovely music visualizer. Their project, based on python and Flask is a web app that converts an mp3 audio input into a downloadable video file which plays the song with beautiful animation that moves with beats.
For each one of them, it was a golden opportunity to learn a new framework Flask, navigate around Git and Github and figuring out how to deploy a project. The help from our campus community, TINKERHUB NSSCE was always there to guide along the way whenever they got stuck.
To support and to give more encouragement Tinkerhub gave rewards to each members of the selected team.
The team members were very excited to share their experience. It helped a lot to encourage them, and to increase their level of confidence. The main significance of the project is that instead of providing an ultimate aim, they provided some criteria to accept the project.
‘Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.’ Successful team work is essential for anyone attempting complete projects successfully. For them, it was a great introduction to team work. They parted their work in between them. Gayathri worked on user interface development. Poornima took initiative to convert audio files into video format while Alphi did the website styling using HTML and CSS.
They knew python when they got started, however, with the help of tinkerhub mentors, they were able learn to use this knowledge to create projects that could be used for real life applications. This project gave them enough confidence to do many other large projects.
To increase the depth of knowledge about the topic, sessions were also held by the Tinkerhub community, which they said was very useful to give an overall idea about the project. Discussions in the discord channels provided helped them in clearing their doubts(which were most often, immediately cleared by the mentors), and also very helpful to make connections with different people. Instead of spoon-feeding the concepts, mentors focused on giving a direction and helping the students self learn. The incentives given by Tinkerhub too were a great motive to go forward and complete the project.
Nothing is more expensive than a missed opportunity. This is just a beginning. Learning is process that never has an end…….
